The Philippines or Filipinas, officially the Republic of the Philippines is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia. It consists of about 7,641 islands. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila. The Philippines has an area of around 300,000 km2 (120,000 sq mi) with a population of around 111 million people. As of 2023, it is the 7th-most populated country in Asia and the 12th-most populated country in the world. Multiple ethnicities and cultures are found throughout the islands.
The Philippines is a founding member of the United Nations, World Trade Organization, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, and the East Asia Summit. The Philippines is considered to be an emerging market and a newly industrialized country, which has an economy transitioning from being based on agriculture to being based more on services and manufacturing.
The Philippines' position as an island country on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator makes the country prone to earthquakes and typhoons. The country has a variety of natural resources and a globally significant level of biodiversity.
Culture
Three centuries under Spanish rule followed by 50 years of American influence has made the Philippines a Southeast Asian country unlike any other.
The capital city of Manila is not just the seat of the Philippine government; it is also the political, commercial, and cultural center of the nation with a population of about 11.86 million people. There are approximately 111 million people living in the Philippines, a quarter of which have settled in the country’s urban center, the Greater Manila metropolitan area and the nearby provinces collectively known as Calabarzon. Metro Cebu and Metro Davao account for a big part of the population as well.

Roman Catholicism is practiced by approximately 83% of the population. The Muslim minority makes up just 5% of the population. Music is an important aspect of Filipino culture and part of daily life in the Philippines, as evidenced by the countless local fiestas. Often religious in nature, these celebrations involve music, dancing, color, and food.
The climate is tropical with an average temperature of 27°C. There are two seasons, the dry and the wet with the monsoon season from May to October.
Filipino is the national language but English is widely spoken. Filipino employees are renowned and trusted worldwide. The Filipino worker is known for his diligence, hard work, creativity, professionalism, technical skills, and English proficiency.
